Together on the Journey:
A Weekly Blog
This Sunday is Trinity Sunday, the day where we celebrate that God meets us in three different forms: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, but that God is also one God.
If this is difficult to get your head around, you are absolutely not alone. This Sunday is notoriously hard to preach on because explaining the concept of the Trinity is trying to use human language to describe God, which will always be inadequate no matter how hard you try.
For a hilarious video of St. Patrick trying to explain the Trinity, I highly recommend this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQLfgaUoQCw
Despite their inadequacy, analogies are still the most common way to explain the Trinity, and many of them use elements in nature. This makes a lot of sense to me because I often feel most connected to God outside, especially in the woods or near water. One of my favourites is God as river, Son as stream, and Holy Spirit as ground water. It reminds me that God, like water, is all around us and always with us (and within us).
If you’d like to spend your Trinity Sunday surrounded by nature, then you are free to come join us for Church in the Park this Sunday May 31 at 10:30 am. We will meet at the SW corner of High Park Ave and Bloor St, and then walk into the middle of the park together. We will spend some time in prayer, and share the Eucharist together, before enjoying some free time to meander in nature or walk the labyrinth. We will come back together at the end and share our experiences over some snacks. Rain or shine. Come join us in the park!
