On January 31st, the Parish Selection Committee (PSC) met with Bishop Kevin Robertson and Archdeacon Steven Mackison to begin our journey to select a new priest for St. George’s on-the-Hill. Bishop Robertson reminded us that we are embarking on a process of discernment with the full presence of the Holy Spirit, and he assured us of his continued prayers. The Bishop also requested that we observe strict confidentiality due to the nature of this process.
We are fortunate that the Bishop has assigned Bill and Cathy Matthews who will be our coaches during this time of discernment. Bill and Cathy are members of St Peter’s Anglican Erindale and have extensive experience in supporting parishes in the selection process.
The Parish Selection Committee mandate is defined under Canon Law 10. The Bishop indicated this process can take nine months or slightly more to complete. Our role is to prepare a Parish Profile based on input from a survey and Parish consultation. After the Bishop reviews the Parish Profile, it will be posted on various sites and potential candidates will apply through the Bishop’s office. The Bishop will make the final decision on the new priest.
We are currently establishing a plan for town halls and surveys to engage our parishioners. We will provide monthly updates to the congregation respecting the confidentiality noted above. If you have any questions, please contact the committee at psc@stgeorgesonthehill.ca
